Featherweight Edwing Davila remained unbeaten Sunday night, knocking out journeyman Victor Contreras Martinez in the fourth round at the Dona Diabla cantina bar in Leon, Guanajuato.

The 24-year-old Davila was fighting for the first time since Oct. 27, when he defeated Saul Banos by unanimous decision over eight rounds. Contreras was also coming off a long layoff, having not fought since losing by second-round knockout to Bryan Mercado on Nov. 17.

Davila was fighting for the first time in the state of Guanajuato after fighting most of his fights in his home state of Aguascalientes and neighboring Zacatecas.

Contreras was game from the opening bell, but Davila connected more and landed the more-effective punches. By the end of the second round, Davila began focusing his attack to the body of Contreras. The tactic paid off as Contreras’ punch output dropped significantly and began to show signs of fatigue.

A right to the body of Contreras forced him to take a knee moments before the end of round three. Contreras beat the count, and was able to make it out of the round.

Davila continued to focus his attack to the body in round four. A well-placed left hook to the body immediately dropped Contreras to his knees, where he remained as he was counted out midway during the round.

Contreras, who also resides in the city of Aguascalientes, falls to 6-13, 5 KOs.

The fight headlined a ‘Boxeo de Gala IV’ card and was promoted by Michi Munoz.
