Noel Mikaelian has accepted Tyson Fury’s challenge.
The former two-time heavyweight champion called for his brother, Tommy Fury, to take on WBC cruiserweight champion Mikaelian following Tommy’s win over Eddie Hall in an exhibition. Tommy, unlike his brother, is yet to beat a ranked opponent and has been competing in crossover boxing. Tommy’s best win still remains that over Jake Paul, a split decision in 2023.
Despite that, Tyson believes his brother is ready to fight for a world championship and, in an interview with IFL TV, said: “Tommy would have a good fight with Noel Mikaelian, the WBC champion. Tommy has the ability to beat him.”
Mikaelian has now responded to Tyson’s challenge in a video posted on social media.
BoxingScene reported earlier this week that Mikaelian is in advanced negotiations to face WBA and WBO cruiserweight champion David Benavidez. Mikaelian was ordered to defend his titles against Benavidez by the WBC, but in his video Mikaelian said he has not heard back from Benavidez’s team and is therefore happy to face the 11-0 (4 KOs) Tommy Fury if the WBC will allow it.
“Here is the deal,” explained Mikaelian, the 28-3 (12 KOs) US–based Armenian. “If your brother wants a title shot I’m up for it, we can do it next if Mauricio [Sulaiman] gives me my voluntary defense back as I’ve not heard from the other team I was supposed to fight. But only if you vouch to fight me next. You love the cruiserweights, don’t you?”
