EBU lightweight champion Edis Tatli (28-1) retained the title last night in Savonlinna (Finland) with a unanimous decision over Spain´s Cristian Morales (14-2-1). After twelve rounds of boxing the judges had it 119-109, 118-110 and 118-111 and Tatli showed again he´s ready for bigger fights.
In other action on this Pekka Maeki promotion, light heavyweight Niklas Rasanen (13-0) stopped Emmanuel Feuzeu (8-4-2) in the tenth and final round.
Welterweight veteran Bogdan Mitic (21-8) stopped hard punching prospect Nordeen Toure (7-2) in the fourth in what was quite an upset.
IN OTHER NEWS: Trinidad and Tobago’s Nigel Paul was toppled by a devastating right hook in the first round that left him out cold for a few seconds, as doctors and officials clambered through the ropes and rushed to his motionless body in the center of the ring.
Relief however coursed throughout the 9,000-seat arena when Paul, 27, began to gingerly climb to his feet and staggered back to his corner with support, where he slumped in his stool.
He earned the biggest cheer of the night when it was apparent that he had recovered enough to stand in the ring for the official declaration signaling that his Olympics had come to a savage end.
