Bantamweight contender Nonito Donaire (25-1, 17KOs) doesn't expect to encounter anything new from WBO/WBC champion Fernando Montiel (44-2-2, 34KOs) on February 19 in Las Vegas. Donaire has been watching Montiel for a very long time and feels the Mexican champion's style is one dimensional. Telling Ryan Burton of BoxingScene.com that he sees the same thing from Montiel in every fight.
"You can't teach old dogs new tricks. He has tremendous power like he's had for quite some time now. Since I've ever seen him, he's always had that power and he's always had that left hook. I expect the same fight from him," Donaire said. "I think I know the weakness that he brings to the ring and I'm going to exploit that and take advantage of it."
Watching a boxer who fights in the same style for every fight is going to make training easier, says Donaire.
"I think so [training is easier]. I get familiar with it. It's more textbook than anything, then going in there with a guy who does the unexpected. I can fight right handed and I can fight left handed so there are a lot of things that they can expect. With him, even though I know his movements, he still has that power," Donaire said.
