Dillian Whyte has revealed that he will be back in the ring in the summer.
The WBC Silver heavyweight champion is the number one contender with the sanctioning body whose champion is Deontay Wilder.
Whyte was most recently in action at the O2 Arena in March when he brutally stopped Lucas Browne inside six rounds, exclusively live on Sky Sports.
Shortly after his victory over the Australian, ‘The Body Snatcher’ was ordered to face Kubrat Pulev in a final eliminator for the IBF crown currently held by Anthony Joshua.
Joshua stopped Whyte inside seven rounds back in December 2015 when the pair clashed for the vacant British title.
And Whyte will step up his preparation for a potential rematch with ‘AJ’ on July 21 at the Greenwich venue, exclusively live on Sky Sports.
The fighter revealed on social media that an official announcement will be made in due course, but in turn said that no opponent had yet been picked –– or at least formally announced to the public.
The aforementioned Bulgarian Pulev, who Joshua had been set to defend his world titles against last October before he pulled out with an injury, is the front runner to be in the opposite corner to Whyte, 30, on the night.
Promoter Eddie Hearn has indicated to various sources that Callum Johnson, the Commonwealth light-heavyweight title holder who demolished Frank Buglioni inside a round last month to add the British title to his collection, could come back on this card after an offer to face Anthony Yarde, the WBO Inter-Continental and WBO European champion, was responded to negatively.
Meanwhile, Akeem Ennis-Brown will return to the ring on May 12 in a title fight.
The former regional champion is set to come back at the GL1 Leisure Centre in Gloucester.
His opponent, for the fight for the vacant WBC Youth super-lightweight title, has yet to be confirmed.
There will be a return on that card for Sean McGoldrick, the Welsh Commonwealth Games champion who missed out on an outing on March 31 at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium, over four or six rounds.
McGoldrick had been set to form part of the supporting cast to Anthony Joshua’s IBF, WBA Super and IBO heavyweight title unification win over WBO champion Joseph Parker, exclusively live on Sky Sports Box Office, but scheduling issues put paid to him being able to appear.
