The September drought continues as Adrian Diaconu (24-0, 15KOs) has pulled out of his Sept. 29 title bout with WBC light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson (24-0, 16KOs). The bout was headlining a Showtime televised card at the Arco Arena in Sacramento, California.
Diaconu cited a wrist injury as the main reason for pulling out his mandatory shot at the gold.
Dan Rafael reports that Showtime and promoter Don King are hunting for a last minute replacement in order to save the show. Dawson is willing to fight a replacement as long as the fight counts as a mandatory defense.
