Golden Boy Promotions has been on the short-end of the stick in recent high-profile fights. Lucas Matthysse was shockingly halted by Victor Postol in ten rounds on October 3rd. Two weeks later, David Lemieux was stopped in seven by Gennady Golovkin. This weekend Golden Boy's highest profile client, Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez takes on Miguel Cotto at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.
Many are calling this a 'must-win' situation for the company.
But regardless of the result on Saturday night, Oscar De La Hoya, the head of Golden Boy, says that his company will continue to match their fighters aggressively and seek to make the match's the public yearns for.
When asked about the future of his company while on 'the 3 Knockdown Rule' podcast with Mario Lopez earlier this week, De La Hoya stated:
"Big things [for Golden Boy in the future]. Look, I counted close to eighty fighters under the Golden Boy banner, current champions, ex-champions, we have the biggest, brightest star in boxing today in 'Canelo' Alvarez. If he wins on November 21st then he's the guy for who knows how many years. So it's just a matter of keep on developing and look, our future is brighter than ever."
At the beginning of 2015 Golden Boy experienced a mass exodus of talent as they parted ways with adviser Al Haymon and his vast stable of boxers. But De La Hoya is confident that they can rebuild their roster.
"We know how to promote, we know how to produce great fights, we know how to promote these young kids so they know how to become champions," he stated. "Look, this is what we do best. Every fighter out there currently as a world champion, maybe 95-percent of them - we made, we promoted.
"So can we do it again? With our eyes closed."
The 'Golden Boy' says they aren't going anywhere.
"I'm here to stay for a very long time," promised De La Hoya, who then joked - "but not as long as Bob Arum."
