Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya will continue to push for a Manny Pacquiao-Juan Manuel Marquez trilogy. De La Hoya and Marquez would like the third fight to take place around 142-144-pounds. Pacquiao's promoter Bob Arum, and the trainer Freddie Roach, are only interested in making the Marquez trilogy at the full welterweight limit of 147-pounds.
De La Hoya points out that Pacquiao always makes his opponents drop down to uncomfortable weights in order to make the fights. De La Hoya was dominated by Pacquiao in their 2008 encounter. The fight happened at 147-pounds, where De La Hoya had not fought in seven years. He wants Pacquiao to do the right thing and make the fight at 142-144. Marquez competes at lightweight, where the limit is 135-pounds.
"For me, Juan Manuel won the first two fights and he's the only one who succeeded in creating problems for Pacquiao, a fighter who has always forced his opponents, including myself, to lose weight and leave everything on the scale. But in Marquez, he met an opponent who caused a lot of problems," said De La Hoya to Miguel Rodriguez.
