Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya disagrees with the declarations being made by WBC/WBA welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. - who is calling himself 'The Best Ever.'
During a recent appearance on ESPN Deportes, Mayweather ranked himself as the 'Best Fighter of All-Time' - ahead of many other legendary greats as Mayweather put together his list of the 'top five' fighters of all-time.
De La Hoya also feels he did enough to decision Mayweather in 2007, when the unbeaten pound-for-pound king won a close twelve round split decision to capture De La Hoya's junior middleweight championship.
After the fight, De La Hoya's company co-promoted Mayweather's pay-per-views for several years - until the two sides went their separate ways last year.
"When he says that he's the best ever, it's not true. It's just not true. I'm just speaking the facts. For me the best ever, and for a lot of people, is like Sugar Ray Robinson, Muhammad Ali, Julio Cesar Chavez. There are tons and tons of fighters out there. My fight with him, do I feel I beat him? I beat him," De La Hoya said.
"It's like okay, you want to tell people you're the best ever - well, I'm going to say that you're not and a lot of people are going to say you're not. It's the truth. I'm not bringing him down. He's skillful, I admire that. He's a fighter, I admire that. But don't be telling people that you're the best ever."
