Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya believes the second time would be the charm.
He has no doubt that Saul "Canelo" Alvarez would defeat Floyd Mayweather in a rematch.
They fought back in 2013, at a catch-weight of 152-pounds, with Mayweather winning dominating twelve round decision at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Mayweather, 41-years-old, fought on December 31 in in Japan, in an exhibition bout with Japanese kickboxing star Tenshin Nasukawa.
The contest took place at 147-pounds, with Mayweather appearing to be far bigger than Nasukawa, who usually fights at super bantamweight.
Mayweather scored three quick knockdowns and blew him away in a single round.
De La Hoya felt the contest was a joke, and says a real fight is waiting - worth a lot of money - with a Canelo rematch.
"I think so (the fight can happen) if Mayweather wants the money so much, it's a real fight," De La Hoya said to A Los Golpes.
Weight is certainly an issue. Last month, Canelo went up to the super middleweight limit of 168-pounds and demolished Rocky Fielding in three rounds to capture the WBA "regular" title. Canelo also owns the WBC, WBA world titles at middleweight.
Mayweather has never fought beyond the junior middleweight limit of 154, and it's not likely that he would go up to 160 to face Canelo, who likely can't get down any lower than middleweight.
If he did happen, which is not very likely, De La Hoya can only see a single outcome with Canelo getting revenge.
"Yes, without a doubt [he would beat Mayweather], with a strategy behind the jab, with throwing a lot of combinations, using angles, applying pressure on him like [Julio Cesar] Chavez - and that's how he would defeat him," De La Hoya said.
