According to Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya, who promotes Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, the Mexican superstar is potentially going to fight again in Mexico sooner than later.
De La Hoya said that "it is very possible (for Canelo to fight in Mexico), and we have already had talks with certain people that I can not mention, but it is very possible."
Canelo has not fought in his home country in eight years.
De La Hoya added that one of the goals of the current middleweight champion of the World Boxing Council (WBC) and the World Boxing Association is "to fight again in front of his Mexican people, so we will see after this fight [with Daniel Jacobs]."
De La Hoya stressed that "maybe since I retired I have not seen another boxer as ambitious as [Canelo], who wants to fight with all the champions and clean out the division, I'm glad he's Mexican and he's representing it in a good way."
With the clear goal of being the first Mexican to unify the titles of the four major organizations at 160, Canelo wants to face every big name and world champion at his weight.
"There are many champions and rematches that can be made,'Canelo has many fights in the future, enough to provide him with; I think we'll have him [in boxing] for a long time, he always wants to fight with the best in the world."
First up, Canelo will return to the ring on May 4 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, where he will unify his two titles with the middleweight world champion of the International Boxing Federation (IBF).
"It will be a tough fight, [Jacobs is] strong, I promoted Jacobs from his first professional fight and for me he is a dangerous fighter, he knows how to box, adjust, change his style, and Canelo recognizes that, and that's why he works hard, he's a professional and he is well prepared for everything, mentally and physically," De La Hoya said.
