Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya added some insult to injury - when he took a shot at the recently beaten Nonito Donaire, who lost a twelve round unanimous decision to Guillermo Rigondeaux on Saturday night in a super bantamweight unification from Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
Earlier this year, De La Hoya's company offered to pay Top Rank $3 million dollars to retain the services of Donaire for a unification with then WBC champion Abner Mares. The offer was rejected and then Mares vacted his title and headed up to featherweight. Donaire made a little over $1.3 million for the Rigondeaux bout.
De La Hoya stated on the social networks: "You should have taken the $3 million. I guess Showtime Sports does have the best 122-pounder after all, Abner Mares."
