Last week, it was revealed that Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya had donated $250,000 in the ongoing fight against the global coronavirus pandemic.

De La Hoya wants others to join in the fight, by donating money to those in need - like hospitals, medical facilities and other first responders.

“The last nine days, I’ve done about 250,000 push-ups and for every push-up, I donated a dollar,” De La Hoya said to TMZ Sports. “So why don’t we do this, let’s challenge our peers, our friends, business leaders, politicians, or business or sports owners and donate money, create awareness.

“Instead of challenging everybody to do push-ups, why don’t we challenge everybody to do push-ups but every push-up you do, donate a dollar. If you do five push-ups, donate five bucks. If you do ten push-ups, donate ten bucks. Imagine millions and millions of people doing this, we can help out a lot, a lot of people especially the people that are helping us in these hospitals.”

“You don’t need to donate crazy amounts but you could create awareness so America could start donating money as well.”

One fight De La Hoya has called on to donate, is one of his biggest rivals, Floyd Mayweather Jr.

“Floyd, let’s match what I donated, for instance,” De La Hoya said. “Or I challenge you to push-up contest. Whoever wins, you gotta donate more money. Let’s do this, let’s help people out.”

Mayweather, who also runs his own promotional company, won a twelve round split decision over De La Hoya in May of 2007.

Ever since their first meeting, the two retired boxers have traded some very harsh words over the years.

Their fight generated the second highest buyrate in combat sports history - until fights like Mayweather-Pacquiao and Mayweather-McGregor came around.
