The career of top rated heavyweight David Tua (51-3-2, 43 KOs) took a decent stumble on Saturday night at the Tropicana Casino and Resort in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Tua went to a twelve round draw with Monte Barrett (34-9-1, 20 KOs), who was fighting for the final time in his long career. Barrett had lost his last three bouts coming into this fight. Barrett was viewed as a serious underdog coming into this fight.

Tua was unable to land any of his big shots in the contest. He missed a lot of his punches and his stamina was shot to hell by the midway point in the fight. Barrett boxed smart, stayed away and made sure he was always at a safe distance from Tua's power.

Tua lost a point in the twelfth round for throwing Barrett to the floor and then Barrett had a surge when he caught Tua, dropping the hard-hitter for the first time in his pro career. The scores were 115-111 for Tua and the other two judges had it scored 113-113 and 113-113 for the draw.
