Former cruiserweight champ and current heavyweight contender, David Haye, plans to use the same high contact style as former undisputed heavyweight champion Mike Tyson. He says the only way to beat the giants of the heavyweight division like Nikolai Valuev and the Klitschko brothers, Wladimir and Vitali, is to blitz them early with combinations that are filled with power punches.

“People haven’t seen a heavyweight attack opponents since Mike Tyson. I know that is what appeals to the fans. I’m going to copy that style – definitely. It’s the only way to fight when you are a small heavyweight," Haye told The Daily Star. “That is why he was such a phenomenon – he didn’t go out there and feel himself into the first round to look at the guy. He just attacked him."

Haye says that he needs to send his heavyweight opponents home early by taking the fight to them and knocking them out. The longer the fight goes, the more of a chance they have to land something big on his chin.

"I have to get in there, do my work and get out. The longer that I am in there the more chance these huge guys have of landing those big shots on me," Haye said.

“So I have to move in like a whirlwind and just blitz them. I can’t afford or allow myself to be hit as much. People haven’t seen heavyweights attack since Tyson. I’m going to approach it like Tyson did and people are going to be very surprised when they see me. Tyson was a lot smaller – 5ft 10 and 15st 9lb at his best – than me. It worked for him. So that is what I’ve been doing – being a lot more aggressive in training, throwing clusters of punches. I think you are going to be surprised.”
