Munich, Germany - Polish super middleweight Dariusz Sek moved up in weight to collide with Serbia-based Albanian Shefat Isufi, who was oppositely going down from the cruiserweight class. Sek revived his stagnating career with a spirited eighth-round stoppage of Isufi in a bid for a vacant WBC Eurasian Pacific light heavyweight title.
Isufi, 25, whose both losses came against undefeated fighters (one of them being 19-0, another one being a pro debutant) in 2014, held the very same belt in the 200lb division. However, he was a smaller man against a towering Pole. Sek tried to impose his will on Isufi but couldn't find his range early on. Fighting at Isufi's second home of Munich, Bayern, Germany - that was a major letdown on the judges' scorecards after the fourth round, which favoured the Albanian.
Sek, 28, began to pay more attention to his head coach Andrzej Gmitruk's advice during into the fight and it helped him greatly. Motivated and calm - all in one - he was able to time Isufi's quick inside penetrations and did his damage.
In the sixth, he cornered Isufi and made some hard leather work on him, winning that stanza too. In the seventh stanza, Isufi's nose was already a bust, while Sek just kept coming. Isufi tried to make some adjustements, to box outside but Sek was patient and didn't gave him much of a chance.
In the eight, already busted Isufi ate some more leather with his nose bleeding profusely. Referee put a halt to the action and took Isufi to the corner, where he wasn't going to allow him to box any longer due to a damaged nose. Thus, Sek got a stoppage win, his eighth, and he is now 23-2-1, with 8 KOs. Isufi drops down to 17-3-2, 13 KOs, suffering his first career premature defeat.
