According to Angel Garcia, father and trainer of WBC/WBA junior welterweight champion Danny Garcia (27-0, 16KOs), his son's return, scheduled for March 15th, has a good possibility of taking place at the Rubén Rodríguez Coliseum in Bayamon City, Puerto Rico.
The event has a significant factor involved, because it is likely that Golden Boy Promotion is going to co-promote their first card with Puerto Rico Best Boxing, who for years promoted all of their Puerto Rico events with Top Rank.
Angel says Mauricio Herrera (20-3, 7KOs) is indeed the opponent they expect to face.
"We are going to fight on March 15 against Mauricio Herrera of Mexico, who was the first guy to beat the Russian Ruslan Provodnikov, when he had about 15 or 16 professional fights," Angel told Carlos Narvaez.
"It will be an event televised on Showtime and [being in Puerto Rico] would be great for Danny, who is Puerto Rican even though a lot of people say he is not because he wasn't born there. But his parents are both born and raised in Puerto Rico. For me it is an honor that Danny will fight in Puerto Rico."
