WBA/WBC junior welterweight champion Danny Garcia (27-0, 16KOs) has often heard his name mentioned in conversations regarding potential future opponents for Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26KOs).
Garcia would like the fight to happen, and wouldn't turn the opportunity down if it was offered to him - but unlike other opponents he doesn't plan to chase the pound-for-pound king.
Last September, Garcia was involved in the featured fight to Mayweather's pay-per-view headliner against Saul Alvarez. Garcia got his biggest career win with a twelve round unanimous decision over Lucas Matthysse.
On March 15th, Garcia will defend his title against Mauricio Herrera in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. Mayweather will have a unification clash with Marcos Maidana on May 3rd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
"I think any fight can be made in boxing, it's just a matter of the managers and promoters. Me and Floyd Mayweather are both managed by Al Haymon and promoted by Golden Boy. The fight can happen. Would I like the fight to happen? Yeah, of course. I would love to be in the ring with one of the best fighters. That's why I'm in the game. I want to fight the best. But is it something that I'm begging for? No. I'm just going to continue building my own legacy. Would I like to fight Mayweather or Pacquiao one day? Of course. But if it don't happen then it don't happen," Garcia told BoxingScene.com.
