In a recent interview with Puerto Rican media outlet Endi, WBA welterweight champion Miguel Cotto gave his thoughts on Oscar De La Hoya's recent comments regarding a potential bout between the two men (click here to read).

Several days ago, De La Hoya told the LA Times that a bout with Cotto "is out of the question" because his wife Millie, a well-known Puerto Rican singer and actress, told him that she does not want him to fight another Puerto Rican.

"Cotto is out of the question," De La Hoya said. "My wife is the pearl of Puerto Rico. She has said, 'Don't fight another Puerto Rican.'"

Cotto said he would love De La Hoya in 2008. He seemed to be at a loss for words when hearing about De La Hoya's decision to not fight him in the future.

"If De La Hoya wants to listen to Millie, that's his decision, but it would be a great fight. I'm open to all kinds of challenges and these are the kind of challenges that attract me. There are several big fights I would like to have, and De La Hoya is one of them," Cotto said.

Cotto will return to the ring on Nov 10. in a title defense against former three-division champion "Sugar" Shane Mosley at New York's Madison Square Garden.
