A few months ago, Kermit Cintron was one of the few names being considered to face Miguel Cotto for the WBO welterweight title on June 13 in New York's Madison Square Garden. Top Rank made a decision to pass on Cintron and gave the Cotto fight to another fighter in their stable, Joshua Clottey.
"I think that [Top Rank's Bob] Arum saw no sense in Cotto fighting me. He knew it was a risk and put him with Clottey, because even he wins the champion will stay with [Top Rank]," Cintron told Primera Hora.
Cintron went in another direction and faces the very dangerous junior middleweight contender Alfredo Angulo in the co-feature slot to HBO's May 30 broadcast. Cintron has a lot of goals that he's yet to achieve in his career. He knows a loss to Angulo may drop his stock by a considerable amount and make those goals a lot tougher to complete.
"I feel like I'm at a great point in my career, but I haven't achieved all of the goals that I've set for myself," Cintron said.
If Cintron is able to get past Angulo, he would like to return to the welterweight division.
"That's my weight and, furthermore, there are great fights available in that division. That' what I want and expect to do in the future," Cintron said.
