Heavyweight veteran Derek Chisora, who fought Dillian Whyte on two occasions, is backing Anthony Joshua to come out on top next month.
Earlier this week, Joshua and Whyte officially announced their rematch for August 12 at the O2 Arena in London.
They met for the first time in December of 2015. Joshua was rocked in the early rounds, but rallied back to knock Whyte out in the seventh. The victory would avenge a loss that Joshua suffered to Whyte in the amateur ranks.
Chisora lost a razor-close twelve round split decision to Whyte in 2016. He was up on the cards when Whyte knocked him out in the eleventh round of their 2018 rematch.
While the two have never fought, Chisora has sparred with Joshua in training camp.
He expects Whyte to be a problem in the early rounds, with Joshua eventually securing a stoppage victory in the second half of the contest.
"We’re five weeks away from the fight. AJ’s doing an eight-hour flight to Vegas. He’s gonna get there, jet-lagged, get tired, come back on an another eight-hour fight here when Dillian will be in London, training in Manchester," Chisora told The Sun.
"I think that in the first two-three rounds, Dillian will cause a bit of a commotion on AJ, but AJ will just bite his gum shield and round eight-nine Dillian gets knocked out.”
In their most recent outings, both Joshua and Whyte saw action against the same man.
Whyte won a close twelve round majority decision over Jermaine Franklin in November of 2022. The outcome was a bounce-back win after Whyte suffered a knockout loss at the hands of Tyson Fury in April of the same year. And Joshua picked up a twelve round unanimous decision victory over Franklin back in April.
