As previously reported, things are now underway for the start of the promotional tour for the HBO Pay-Per-View fight between Saul "Canelo" Alvarez and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Both boxers hit the first stop of the tour in Mexico City.
The fight will take place on May 6, at the T-Mobile Arena. They agreed to fight at a catch-weight of 164.5-pounds.
"It is a new weight for me and I hope to be at a 100%, but we are ready for anything ... We must continue working in the same line, with a lot of discipline," Canelo said.
In addition, the WBO junior middleweight champion of the world assured that a fight between two Mexican warriors will always leave a mark of fondness with the boxing fans.
"Fights between Mexicans are always great fights and I'm going to do my part to deliver everything, so that I showcase what Mexican boxing is about," Canelo said.
While his promoter, Oscar de la Hoya, commented that - "Saul wanted the fight and as a promoter you have to make the best fights. Mexican boxing is the best boxing in the world. When you have two Mexicans up the ring it is a guaranteed show."
The son of a legend has learned from his two career defeats, overcoming them both physically and mentally.
"Those two defeats have left me with more experience than the 50 I have won," Chavez Jr. said.
For both of them, there is a lot of pride at stake in this fight and to them it is worth more than money and titles.
Hall of Fame legend Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. said that the best version of his son will arrive to the showdown.
"We have seen the best of Canelo but not Julio ... I've always said, if Julio is prepared as he should be - he can beat Canelo and whoever else, so he will win this fight," said the Mexican boxing legend.
The press tour will continue on February 21 in New York, followed by Houston on February 23 and will end in Los Angeles on February 24 with a press conference.
