Legendary Mexican icon Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. is very disappointed with his son, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., over last Saturday's performance against Saul "Canelo" Alvarez at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Chavez Jr. was dominated from bell to bell, losing a twelve round unanimous decision where all three judges scored every round for Canelo. There was very little offense from Chavez Jr., who basically took punishment and stayed defensive.

There was a catch-weight of 164.5-pounds in the bout. Chavez Jr. made the weight with no problems, by coming in at 164 last Friday, but claims he was physically weakened from getting down that low.

Chavez Sr. believes his son's actions over the last few years are to blame - the long periods of inactivity, not taking his training camps seriously and allowing his body to blow up in weight.

For this fight, Chavez Jr. trained with Hall of Fame coach Nacho Beristain in the mountains of Mexico.

He intends to continue his career at the super middleweight limit of 168-pounds.

Chavez Sr. would rather see him walk away from the sport - unless he starts to take his career seriously.

"I will openly tell the truth, because I can not hide anything. If this boy, who is my son - Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. - continues with that same indiscipline, with that irresponsibility that he has - then I really want him to retire and not fight," said Chavez Sr. to Golpe a Golpe.

"My son Julio has to leave a lot of things behind. If he wants to continue in this profession he must change from the bottom to the top. He can not continue to do things his own way, calling the shots on everything. He does not care about criticism, he wants to do things in his own way. It is very sad to see how my children do not change, because this is a profession and they owe respect to the public."
