Fernando Beltran, who co-promotes Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. with Top Rank, would love to stage an all-Mexican mega-bout with Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (34-0, 26KOs). Coincidently, both Chavez Jr. and Alvarez will see action this coming Saturday in separate cards. Chavez (40-0-1, 30KOs) will take on Pawel Wolak (27-1, 17 KOs) at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum confirmed Monday's report by BoxingScene.com that Chavez-Wolak will now take place at 165-pounds. Alvarez will face IBO champion Lovemore N'dou (48-11-2, 31 KOs) in Mexico.
There are obvious hurdles to making Chavez-Alvarez. The biggest hurdle is the feud between Top Rank and Golden Boy Promotions, who promote Alvarez. Because of the promotional feud, Beltran believes the fight will be difficult to make.
"That would be a huge fight with Alvarez. I don't know how well known he is in the United States, but we would like to fight him, naturally. In Mexico that would be a big fight. He's undefeated and he's young," said Beltran.
"That would be huge in Mexico, and we would like to fight it in Mexico. But he is promoted by Oscar De La Hoya, and Chavez is promoted by Top Rank and myself, so it's not very easy to make fights with them. I respect Oscar De La Hoya. I only did business once with them."
