Former World Boxing Council (WBC) world middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. has completed the strong stage of his preparation for the crucial match against fellow Mexican Marco "Dorado" Reyes , which takes place this Saturday night at the Don Haskins Center in El Paso, Texas. The fight will be broadcast live throughout Mexico by Televisa Deportes and in the United States on Showtime.
The "Son of the Legend" has been training in Oxnard, California, under the tutelage of renowned trainer and former world champion Robert Garcia , where he found a great team and the right type of training needed to maximize their skills in the ring.
"Here there are many sparring partners at my weight. I had trouble adjusting [to the new training routines] but I got it, and the results have been noticeable. When I'm in the ring will the difference will be noticeable," said Chavez.
Chavez Jr. who has a record of 48 wins, 32 of them before the distance, 2 losses, 1 draw and 1 no contest, will have a tough test before him with a determined Reyes (33-2, 24 KOs), who stopped 70% his opponents inside the distance. Chavez is coming off a ninth round stoppage loss in April to talented Polish light heavyweight Andrzej Fonfara.
"I worked hard to get here. I have faced the best in the world and I want to be champion again in another division, so I have to get a convincing win against an opponent that I have to beat categorically - simply because he has not faced opponents of the same quality as I have. I want to have two more fights this year before looking for a world title in a division where [a world title] has never been won by a Mexican," Chavez Jr. said.
