The motivation being brought by Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. for his upcoming fight against countryman Canelo Alvarez is said to be immense.
Not only is Chavez's team convinced of his ability to win, they believe that he's going to knock Canelo out on May 6th, on HBO Pay-Per-View.
The two boxers finalized a deal two weeks ago, where a catch-weight of 164.5-pounds will be the contracted meeting point. Canelo comes up from 154-pounds, and Chavez is coming down from 168.
Chavez already began training in Culiacan, according to his uncle and trainer Rodolfo Chavez. The strong stage of the camp will be held at the end of February, with two months to go, and the Otomi Ceremonial Center in Mexico is still the favorite location for their main camp base.
"Junior is already training lightly. He is starting on his conditioning and has not started training strong as of yet. He has not started his formal training. He's just conditioning and obviously maintaining the weight which will be very important, because they want to charge him a million dollars for every pound [over 164.5], but I'm confident that he will not pay them anything," said Rodolfo to ESPN Deportes.
According to Rodolfo, his nephew is very enthusiastic about the fight.
"He thinks he's going to knock him out, and I think so too," Rodolfo said. "He is very happy, excited, that the fight is finally coming around. He's always wanted to fight with Canelo, and now it's finally happening and let's see who is better."
At the moment Rodolfo is the trainer of Julio, but it is being said that either Robert Garcia or Freddie Roach - two trainers that Chavez Jr. has worked with in the past - could join the team, in addition to physical trainer Memo Heredia and coach Tiburcio García.
