WBC silver middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (41-0, 30KOs) has to take care of business on January 29 in Culiacán, Mexico, when he faces American boxer Billy Lyell at Estadio Banorte. Chavez has vowed to win in order to further the negotiations for a possible title fight with unbeaten Sebastian Zbik (30-0, 10KOs). Chavez is now the mandatory challenger to Zbik, who was elevated to full champion status by the WBC on Tuesday.
"I can assure my people that we're going out with a win over Billy," said Chavez. "I am a boxer, and with Roach I learned a lot. I got back the hungry and he disciplined me a lot. I want to be champion. I'll go for the WBC championship and I'll will work hard to get it."
Julio's new trainer Freddie Roach is confident that his boxer will capture the middleweight title before the end of 2011.
"It's a pleasure to train Julio," said Roach. "He's a young man with much potential and so much to give. I know we'll get to the championship. He learns easy and he's very open to correcting things and learning new things."
