Former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (46-1-1, 32KOs) wants to make it clear to all middleweights - "I'm back." The 27-year-old, son of a legend, is getting ready for a planned return on June 22, televised on HBO, in either Texas or Mexico.
The three opponents being considered are Matthew Macklin, Domenico Spada and Brian Vera. Chavez will enter the ring for the first time since last September's twelve round decision loss to Sergio Martinez.
Chavez made it clear to reporters in Mexico that "he wants revenge" on Martinez and hopes to get a rematch "later this year." He also said he is "not afraid" to get in the ring with WBA champion Gennady Golovkin and feels confident about his ability to win.
The Mexican star further stated that he wants to "thank all of his fans and looks forward to getting into the ring, winning and bringing the WBC title back to Mexico."
Chavez has been out of the ring due to a nine month suspension after testing positive for marijuana in his post-fight drug test, which was taken after the loss to Martinez.
