Former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (50-2-1, 32 KOs) is motivated by a personal mission in his ongoing training camp.
He wants to punish countryman Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 KOs) and knock him out inside the distance.
The two boxers will collide in their anticipated grudge match on May 6th, Cinco De Mayo weekend, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The fight will be carried by HBO Pay-Per-View. The fight takes place at a catch-weight of 164.5-pounds.
Chavez Jr. states that he's angered at the way Canelo has treated his past opponents over the years.
He says Canelo has taken advantage of a lot of fighters. Chavez Jr. lashed out, stating that Canelo forced opponents to fight at catch-weights, and fought opponents who were inactive, much smaller or way past their best.
"Canelo, he doesn't like the fact that I tell him that he's fought with little guys, that he's had fights that are always in his favor - and this time it's not like that, it's different. He's going to fight me. For the first time, he's really going to have to fight. This is not for the money. What I want is to knock him out, to make him pay what he's done to others and how he abused them," Chavez Jr. told Erika Montoya.
"He's never going to be Julio Cesar Chavez, he'll never be better than me. I'm going to win."
Chávez Jr. is training under the orders of Hall of Fame trainer Nacho Beristaín and conditioning coach Ángel Heredia in the mountains of the Otomí Ceremonial Center in Mexico, where he plans to obtain the best preparation of his career.
Chavez last fought at the super middleweight limit of 168 last December, while Canelo fought at the junior middleweight limit of 154-pounds last September when he picked up the WBO title.
