Saul “Canelo” Alvarez is putting the finishing touches on an intense training camp as his fight with Alfredo Angulo is less than 2 weeks away. Both Alvarez and Angulo are trying to bounce back from defeats last year which makes the stakes even higher as the winner will get himself back in the mix while the loser will suffer back to back losses for the first time in his career.
Alvarez’s last fight was a difficult one as he faced not only the best fighter in the sport today, but arguably also the best defensive fighter in the game in Floyd Mayweather.
Canelo and his team have expressed that Angulo will provide them a fight as he’ll be in front of them and come forward all night long.
While Mayweather is clearly a better fighter than Angulo, trainer and manager Jose “Chepo” Reynoso feels the Angulo fight might actually be a harder fight than Mayweather.
“The fight is completely different. It’s not the same environment to fight Mayweather and to fight Angulo. It doesn’t mean the fight isn’t dangerous. It could be the fight is even harder with Angulo because Angulo comes out to take punches and give punches. Mayweather comes out not to take punches. So the styles are different and at any moment it could be more dangerous due to Angulo’s punching power. He’s a fighter that hits hard and throws a lot of punches. He’s a fighter with who you have to be very alert so you aren’t careless or have something unexpected happen” Reynoso would tell BoxingScene.
Mayweather’s style is a difficult one to deal with as he’s remained undefeated in his illustrious 18 year career but with Angulo, Canelo won’t have a problem finding him. Saul will go from one extreme to the next as he won’t have to worry about finding Angulo but instead worry about what will come back in return.
“Well I think this fight is very interesting because styles make fights. The styles of Saul and Alfredo will accommodate each other to give a good fight. El Perro always comes forward and he won’t care if he receives punishment in order to land his shots. He’s also coming off a loss and knows he needs a win to get back to the top because he’s hungry. He’s hungry for triumph. Hungry for glory and at the end, that makes everything even more interesting and a more dangerous fight. He’s going to make a win very difficult and will come with everything” said Reynoso.
