LOS ANGELES --- Saul "Canelo" Alvarez had his unbeaten streak snapped when he dropped a majority decision to Floyd Mayweather last September, so he was a very interedted observer of last weekend's Mayweather-Marcos Maidana fight.
Alvarez, who faces Erislandy Lara on July 12 at the MGm Grand in Las Vegas on Showtime PPV, believes Mayweather deserved to get the decision.
"I think that Maidana complicated things," said Canelo at Tuesday's news conference at the El Pueblo Historical Monument.
"I think his style was complicated for Mayweather. Mayweather's style complicates many other fighters, but this time it was the other way around. Maidana's style is the one that complicated Mayweather. I feel towards the end of the fight or the later stages of the fight, you know, Mayweather made his adjustments and he started taking over."
Mayweather didn't use as much movement as he usually does and Maidana was able to pin him on the ropes and bang a way with combos multiple times. If Mayweather fought Canelo the way he fought Maidana, what would happen?
"It would have been different," Canelo said. "It would have definitely been different. You know, with Maidana he didn't use his legs as much. He stood right in front of him. With me, obviously, he moved. But he knows who he can move with and who he can't."
