Saul "Canelo" Alvarez is training like a man possessed, says his trainer Jose "Chepo" Reynoso. Canelo has already sparred 36 rounds of a planned 160 or 170 for his very important fight on the 21st of November at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. Canelo will challenge Miguel Angel Cotto for the WBC middleweight championship at a catch-weight of 155-pounds.
With a month of preparation in the books, the Mexican boxer has been training with three different sparring partners, and working with them on strength and speed.
"We will see the Canelo be more mature [in the ring], a fighter with more experience, calculating. The work he is doing is the best that I've ever seen and on November 21 you will see all the progress," said Reynoso to El Vocero.
"He sparred nine rounds with three sparring partners and he's already had four of those sessions. I liked how he looked, working on defense speed. We hope to have 160 or 170 rounds."
Recently, Cotto fired some verbal jabs at Canelo and his team. Reynoso says they are not paying attention to any of that and placing their full concentration on training.
"We are doing our job, trying to do things the best that we can and time will tell if things were well done, and that's the most important things," Reynoso said.
