Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, middleweight world champion of the WBA and WBC, is hoping to have at least three fights in 2019.

Last year, he fought Gennady Golovkin to a majority decision win in September and then knocked out Rocky Fielding in three rounds in December.

There were several times when Canelo was scheduled to have a third fight in a year, but due to injuries those bouts were called off.

On May 4th, he returns to the ring in a high stakes unification against IBF world champion Daniel Jacobs at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

He intends to fight again in September, as part of Mexican Independence Day weekend, and then he aims to have a third fight, if possible, in the month of December.

"Our goal is May and September. After the second fight, [a third one] will depend how I feel and I have to rest. If everything goes well I could have a third fight in the year," Canelo said.

While Canelo respects Jacobs and is training for a twelve round fight, he also wants to secure a victory by knockout.

Jacobs has been down several times as a pro - in recent fights with Gennady Golovkin and Sergio Mora. He was stopped once in his career, back in 2010 when he was stopped in five rounds by Dmitry Priog in a battle for the WBO middleweight belt.

"Every fighter looks for the knockout, it's spectacular and I'm going to go out and look for him. I'm going to prepare for the 12 rounds, but if the opportunity presents itself, I'll take it," said Canelo.
