Luke Campbell and Tommy Coyle’s domestic lightweight showdown has been set for this summer in Hull, according to the Hull Daily Mail. The publication has reported that the bout will take place on August 1 at the city’s KC Stadium.
Eddie Hearn will promote the show, which will be shown on Sky TV in the United Kingdom.
A former Olympic Champion, Campbell, 11-0 (9), has not put a step wrong as pro; the 27-year-old, though, will enter his first meaningful all-British showdown in front of a divided crowd as both men hail from Hull and have sizeable support.
Coyle, 21-2 (10), knows the pain of defeat; his most recent loss was a 10th-round TKO against Derry Mathews in 2013. The 25-year-old IBF International lightweight titlist bounced back with a run of six wins—including stoppage wins over Michael Katsidis and Marthin Gethin (W TKO 3, twice, in his last two)—and is known for taking part in exciting, give-and-take shootouts—he will hope to use his greater experience to upset the odds come the night.
The Mail article claims that the fight will be officially unveiled next week at a press conference.
