Junior middleweight contender Hector Camacho Jr. is still focused on landing a fight with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. First he must beat Israel Cardona on August 29 at the Wolstein Center in Cleveland, Ohio. The vacant WBC Caribbean Boxing Federation (CABOFE) junior middleweight title is at stake. Over the years, Camacho has struggled with weight and at one point he was fighting as a light heavyweight. He seems to have worked off a lot of weight and made a slow move back to 154-pounds. He doesn't see Cardona beating him in any fashion.
"I am faster, younger and stronger than Cardona. I don't think he can do much to me and the fight probably won't go five rounds," Camacho told Primera Hora.
Camacho hopes the fight and the minor WBC belt will lead to a fight with Chavez Jr. in 2010. Camacho's name has been mentioned for a fight with Chavez a few times but it never came off. Chavez's father, Julio Sr., holds a dominating win over Camacho's father, Hector Sr.
"This title is going to put me among the top ten of the WBC and that opens up the possibility of a future fight with Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr. Everyone is asking for that fight and it is possible that it can be done in the 2010," Camacho said.
