Light heavyweight Joe Calzaghe has not made an official decision on whether or not he plans to continue his career. A decision should come down by January. If he does fight again, it probably won't be against IBF light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson. According to the New York Post, a Calzaghe insider told the paper "we have no interest in Dawson."
Dawson was in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand for Hatton-Maliganggi and told The Post that he's not going to put his career on hold to chase a fight with Calzaghe, he's going to move on to the next fight.
"It's not like I'm trying to pick on those old guys, but these are the guys I need. I definitely want the fight with Joe Calzaghe," Dawson said, "but if it doesn't happen I can't keep crying about it. I have to go on with my career and continue to make myself a better fighter and make myself a better person."
Dawson's manager, Mike Criscio, told the paper that it's a shame that some of the bigger names in the sport like Calzaghe are avoiding his fighter.
"When you're as good as Chad is, people shy away from you because they don't want to take the chance on you knocking them out or losing to a young champion," said Criscio. "That hurts boxing."
