2300 Arena, Philadelphia - The Philly vs. New Jersey showdown ended in an eight round draw between junior middleweights Ismael Garcia (10-0-1, 4 KOs) and Tyrone Brunson (23-6-2, 22 KOs). The scores were 78-74 for Brunson, 78-74 for Garcia and 76-76 for the draw.
Brunson, 31, of North Philadelphia, set a record when he turned pro in 2005 and knocked out each of his first 19 opponents in one round. The streak ended in 2008 when Brunson was held to a six-round draw by Mexican Antonio Soriano in Canada.
In his last fight Aug. 5 at the 2300 Arena, Brunson got off the floor twice in the second round to score a spectacular one-punch knockout in the fifth round over Carlos Garcia, of Puerto Rico. A pro since 2014, Ismael has been hampered by injury and long layoffs.
Top Rank promoted junior welterweight contender Mike Reed of Baltimore, MD. picked up a stay busy win on the card. Reed (20-0, 12 KOs) dropped and stopped Jose Herrera (21-6-1, 13 KOs) in the sixth round.
Reed, 23, turned pro less than four years ago. This was his second appearance at the 2300 Arena. He earned a six-round decision over Samuel Amoako, of Ghana, on March 18 in the same ring. In his last fight June 11 in Madison Square Garden, Reed stopped Abraham Cordero, of Mexico, in six rounds.
Also, Lou DiBella promoted super featherweight Tevin Farmer (23-4-1, 5 KOs) continued his run with an eight round unanimous decision over Orlando Rizo, (19-8, 11 KOs). The scores were 78-72, 78-72 and 77-73. They would have been wider had Farmer not been penalized two points for low blows.
In his last fight back in July, Farmer moved up to lightweight and won a ten round unanimous decision over big puncher Ivan Redkach. Farmer is no stranger to straying low, as he lost a point for lows blows in that contest as well.
