WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner (25-0, 21KOs) has issued an ultimatum to WBO betlholder Ricky Burns. If Burns doesn't fight him in the near future, then Broner intends to move up to the junior welterweight limit of 140-pounds.
Broner officially moved up to 135 last November and won the WBC belt from Antonio DeMarco. Burns (35-2, 10KOs) came to lightweight in November of 2011 and captured the WBO title.
Burns will return on March 16th in a unification encounter with IBF champion Miguel Vazquez. Broner comes back tonight at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, defending his title against Burns' countryman Gavin Rees.
Golden Boy Promotions, who promote Broner, were trying to match him against Burns for today's event, but they were unable to reach a financial agreement with Burns' promoter Frank Warren.
"After this fight, if Ricky Burns don't fight me then I'm just going to move up. Ricky Burns is the fight that I've been wanting. You were supposed to fight me this time, you ran. You were supposed to fight me at 130 at first, you ran again. As long as my check is right I don't care where we fight," Broner told Sky Sports.
