Retired middleweight Nick Blackwell has advised former foe Chris Eubank Jr. to stop calling out world champion like Gennady Golovkin while fighting opponent on the British domestic scene.
Eubank will defend his British title against unbeaten Tom Doran on June 25th as part of the Anthony Joshua vs. Dominic Breazeale Sky Sports Pay-Per-View event.
Blackwell's career came to an end after taking a vicious beating from Eubank earlier this year. He was forced to retire after being placed into an induced coma for a week.
Eubank is really pushing to get his hands on Golovkin for the WBA/IBF/WBC/IBO world titles in the fall. He signed a contract with Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport with the clause of Hearn securing him a date with Golovkin in the future.
Blackwell things Eubank will eventually work his way to a world title, but he should start fighting world class competition if he's actually serious about fighting opponents like Golovkin.
Blackwell exclusively told Sky Sports: "He's been talking about Golovkin and he had the chance to fight Danny Jacobs and Billy-Joe Saunders. So he's been talking about all these fights, but he wants a fight for the British title. Don't go calling out world champions when you're fighting for the British title, you know?"
"He's still young, he's 26, so maybe he wants to win the British title outright. But don't go calling out world champions when you're fighting for the British title, you know? I think he will, because he's got the potential to do it [to fight for world titles]. But at the moment, it's just talk."
