WBC, IBF light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev is only a few days away from his first fight since October of 2019, when he unified the titles with a stoppage win over Oleksandr Gvozdyk.

On Saturday night, Beterbiev will take on German contender Adam Deines in Moscow, Russia.

One fighter that Beterbiev is certainly interested in facing is Mexican superstar Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez.

Back in 2019, Canelo moved up to light heavyweight and knocked out Sergey Kovalev for the WBO title. He would later vacate the belt and drop down to the super middleweight limit of 168-pounds.

Ironically, Kovalev was Beterbiev's rival in the amateurs. Over the years, the two boxers traded plenty of harsh words in the press, but they never came together in the pros.

Back in December, Canelo picked up the WBC, WBA titles with a domination of Callum Smith over twelve rounds.

If Canelo wants to return to 175 - Beterbiev is eager to greet him.

"Of course I'm interested, I'm in. Ask him, I cannot answer for him. But if you ask me, I'm in, you'd have to ask him if he's in," Beterbiev told The Sun.

Canelo returns on May 8th, when he faces WBO world champion Billy Joe Saunders in a three belt unification.

Beterbiev has a fearsome undefeated  record of 17 wins, with all 17 by knockout.

He grew up idolizing boxers like Mike Tyson and Muhammad Ali.

"Mike Tyson and Muhammad Ali have always been my idols of boxing. However, I didn't adopt their characters, I didn't adopt their styles. They have different boxing styles to me. And I don't think I'm as intimidating as Mike Tyson! Look at me, I'm not as scary as Mike Tyson was," Beterbiev said.
