Win or lose, Marco Antonio Barrera (63-5, 42KOs) told BoxingScene's Ernest Gabion that he will never stage a rematch with Juan Manuel Marquez (44-3, 35KOs). Barrera is so convinced that he was robbed of a win in their March bout, that he sees no reason to ever fight Marquez again.
"No. Never. Never will I have a rematch with Juan Manuel Marquez because I don't feel that I lost the last fight," Barrera said.
Barrera is fully focused on his Oct. 6 rematch with Manny Pacquiao, and fully admits that on the night he was stopped in 2003, Pacquiao was simply the better man.
"Four years. Four years I waited for this fight. Manny Pacquiao, he won the (first) fight clean. It was a good night for him," Barrera said.
He's looking to outbox Pacquiao, but more than willing to brawl if the Filipino slugger makes it a dogfight.
"(If he wants a war) I'll go to war. I'll go and do the best I can to give a very good fight to the people. This my last big fight. I want to fight more, but this is my last big fight," Barrera said.
In closing, he gave thanks to his Mexican rival Erik Morales for giving him the chance to be involved in three memorable fights. He also said the choice of retirement will good for his former foe.
"It's good for him because Erik Morales had many wars, many big fights and maybe his body needs to relax. Erik Morales, I want to say thank you for giving me the opportunity to fight three times with you," Barrera said.
