Former three-division champion Marco Antonio Barrera (65-6, 43 KOs) made his return to the ring with a win at the Auditorio Telmex in Jalisco, Mexico, but it wasn't sweet. He beat late replacement Freudis Rojas (1-8-1, 1KOs) by disqualification in the third round after Rojas hit him with his head, which forced the DQ call by the ref and opened a very bad cut over Barrera's left eye.
With February already here, the cut above Barrera's eye could put his much anticipated fight with Amir Khan, scheduled for March 14 at the MEN Arena in the UK, in jeopardy. Ringside reports have said the cut appeared to be serious and will require stitches. The Barrera-Khan meeting is a red-hot ticket in UK and the undercard is stacked. There will be a lot of upset fans if the fight is postponed.
As the old saying in boxing goes - "there is no such thing as a safe fight."
