BoxingScene.com spoke to Austin Trout after he returned from Mexico with the WBA world junior middleweight title that he won last Saturday night when he defeated Rigoberto Alvarez by a wide margin.  The scores were 119-118 on all three judges scorecards.  Trout talks about the victory, who he wants next and more in this exclusive interview.
 
BoxingScene.com:  First off congratulations on picking up the title.  Please give a brief recap of your fight for all the fans that didn't get a chance to see it (the bout was televised by Televisa in Mexico).
 
Austin Trout:  I felt that I had control of the fight from the first bell to the last bell.  I established the jab early on and as the rounds went on I started letting my combinations go a lot more.  I didn't really get hit at all.  It was a good boxing clinic.
 
BoxingScene.com:  The scores were very wide at 119-108 on all three judges scorecards.  Were you surprised the scores were that wide?  I am sure you felt the scores were accurate but you were fighting in his hometown.
 
Austin Trout:  Yeah actually I was a little surprised that they scored it right.  All I asked for was a fair chance and that is exactly what I was given.
 
BoxingScene.com:  Earlier this week on BoxingScene we ran an article in which Rigoberto's brother Canelo Alvarez said that he would like to fight you so that he could get revenge for his brother and a shot at winning your title.  What are you thoughts on a fight with Canelo?
 
Austin Trout:  That is great.  I would like to give him that shot.  Actually we felt that the best case scenario was that we would beat Canelo's brother and then Canelo would come looking for a fight.  The plan worked and I would love to accommodate him and give him that challenge.  Of course we leave it up to the promoter on who we fight next but that would be a great decision for me to go in there and beat up Cinnamon."
 
BoxingScene.com:  Canelo has a fight coming up with Mathew Hatton in March and wants to face you in June back in his hometown of Guadalajara.  How would you feel about going back to Mexico?  It seems like you have the belt now so you should have more of a say in where the fight will take place.
 
Austin Trout:  I don't know if I would go back to Guadalajara for that fight even though Guadalajara was great and the people were nice to me.  If he wants my belt then he has to come and get it.  Besides that you know he has a big following in California so I don't know why he would think I would go back to Guadalajara to fight him.  We can do it in California or somewhere else.
 
BoxingScene.com:  You have the belt and he has a big following.  I am sure you guys could come to an agreement to fight in the U.S.
 
Austin Trout:  Yes most definitely.  I am not saying that I am against going back to Guadalajara.  I would love to go back to Guadalajara and take a fight back down there.  Just not this fight.
 
BoxingScene.com:  If a fight with Canelo doesn't come to fruition, who else would you like to fight?
 
Austin Trout:  I would like to fight Chavez Jr. as well.  That is another name I could put on my belt.  Go down the list.  It is a stacked weight class.  The game plan I guess would be to get the winner of Cotto-Mayorga but I am going to be more realistic.  I don't think either one of them would want to fight me.
 
BoxingScene.com:  When we talked before the fight you said that you wanted to be the "World's Champion" and that you didn't want to be like some of these other guys that don't fight often or only look for certain opponents or only fight in certain venues.  Now that you are a champion do you feel the same way?
 
Austin Trout:  I still feel the same way.  I don't mind travelling the world to accommodate the world's challengers. 
 
BoxingScene.com:  If you had it your way when would you like to return to the ring?
 
Austin Trout:  I would say as late as May or as early as April would be good for me.
 
BoxingScene.com:  Do you have a message for the fans?
 
Austin Trout:  I just want to say that my faith has paid off.  I believed from the beginning that I could do it.  God paved the way and I just want to thank Him and give him the greater glory.  I want to thank all the fans that have stuck with me through this long journey.  It is far from over but we have definitely hit a milestone.
