No matter what has been rumored or reported, there have been no discussions of a rematch between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, who finally squared off on May 2nd, with Mayweather winning a unanimous decision.
"Unless they're negotiating with somebody else, it's not me," said the head of Top Rank, Bob Arum, with a laugh, to BoxingScene.com.
"There have been no negotiations, what everybody is saying is with the incredible amount of money that they did last time that neither guy can make anywhere near the money fighting somebody else then they could fighting each other..
After all the precincts have reported, this pay-per-view (which was in the $100 range) could total over five million buys. Mayweather is expected to clear over $200 million, with Pacquiao getting in the range of $150 million.
So it's only logical that there is talk of Mayweather-Pacquiao 2 given those figures.
"Nobody is saying they're going to do the money they did last time," said Arum, realizing that this event was more of a commercial success than a critical one.
The question is, would a return bout even have a fraction of the first go-around?
"Who knows," said Arum, who pointed out - "whether it's two-thirds (of the interest) or one-half, whatever it is - it's a huge number."
