LOS ANGELES -- During Monday's Tim Bradley-Juan Manuel Marquez media brunch, Top Rank CEO Bob Arum informed BoxingScene.com that Terence Crawford will challenge Ricky Burns for the WBO title at the Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York on Jan. 25.
Arum already has a co-feature in mind for the card.
"We hope to do, depending on how (Vasyl) Lomanchenko does Saturday, we hope to have Lomanchenko fighting for a world title on that card," Arum told BoxingScene.com.
Lomanchenko, who won a gold medal at the last two Olympic Games, will make his pro debut Saturday against Jose Ramirez on the Bradley-Marquez PPV telecast. If Lomanchenko is impressive, it looks like he'll be challenging for a world title in just his second pro fight, an unprecedented feat.
The Ukrainian is debuting in the featherweight division. Evgeny Gradovich is the IBF titleholder and fights under the Top Rank banner, which would make the fight a natural.
And then there's also the vacant WBO featherweight title, which will be decided Saturday in a bout between Orlando Cruz and Orlando Salido on the same telecast.
If Lomanchenko is impressive Saturday, a title challenge versus Gradovich or the winner of Cruz-Salido seems plausible.
