Former three time welterweight champion Antonio Margarito was impressed by what he saw in the ring last Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. He sat ringtside to watch Miguel Cotto retain his WBA 154-pound title with a twelfth round TKO of Ricardo Mayorga. A possible rematch between Margarito and Cotto is being negotiated for July 16th in either Las Vegas or New Jersey.
Margarito knocked Cotto out in the eleventh round of their 2008 clash. He says the Puerto Rican boxer has improved under the guide of new trainer Emanuel Steward.
"Well, I did see something new [since their first fight]. I watched him and he was a lot more technical. He was more technical and he was more calm when he was boxing. He looked good and was slipping and blocking more punches [than in the past]. Miguel Cotto has always been a good fighter and he showed why," Margarito told Jose Sanchez.
