Angel Garcia was as confrontational and crude as ever Tuesday after arriving at MGM Grand.
When asked about battling Lucas Matthysse on Saturday night, Danny Garcia’s father/trainer didn’t waste any time before launching into yet another expletive-filled diatribe during the Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Saul “Canelo” Alvarez “Grand Arrivals” event in Las Vegas.
“There’s no pressure,” Angel Garcia said. “Danny’s still going to do his thing. Listen, he’s always been the underestimated guy. Listen, everybody wants to be Argentine Saturday night. But they forget where we live, in America. We’re in America, baby. USA, baby! USA! USA! America, baby! Everbody want to be Filipinos, Argentinas, Chiquitinos, Muninos. Everybody want to be … get the eff out. Ain’t nobody going to do sh*t! [Matthysse] ain’t going to do sh*t! He ain’t going to do sh*t! Him and his trainer ain’t going to do sh*t! Sh*t!”
Matthysse’s vaunted power was the next topic of conversation, and Angel Garcia gave more unusual answers.
“Listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen,” Angel Garcia said. “We do the same thing over and over. Nothing changes. He doesn’t change our life. God does. You understand what I’m saying? He ain’t going do sh*t.”
After antagonizing the crowd some more, Angel Garcia grabbed the microphone one last time.
“Listen, listen,” Angel Garcia yelled, before referencing odds that favor Matthysse by more than a 2-1 margin. “Go gamble. Go put your money on Danny cuz y’all going lose. Listen, Vegas don’t know nothing. The world don’t know nothing. Only I know everything.”
Moments earlier, Danny Garcia was his usual composed, professional self.
“I’m 26-0,” Danny Garcia said. “Saturday night, I’ll be 27-0 and that’s all I’ve got to say about that.”
Philadelphia’s Garcia (26-0, 16 KOs) and Argentina’s Matthysse (34-2, 32 KOs, 1 NC) will square off in the co-featured fight Saturday night at MGM Grand (Showtime Pay-Per-View; $74.95 in HD; 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT). Their 12-round fight for the WBA and WBC 140-pound titles is one of the most anticipated pay-per-view undercard fights in boxing history and will immediately precede a 12-round main event that’ll pit Las Vegas’ Mayweather (44-0, 26 KOs) against Mexico’s Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KOs).
