The welterweight champion of the World Boxing Council (WBC), Andre Berto, is very focused for Saturday's title defense against Mexican challenger Freddy Hernández, which takes place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Berto is being considered as an opponent for WBO champion Manny Pacquiao, but he is not overlooking the challenge of Hernandez.
"I have respect for Hernández. I've seen videos of his fights, and I know that he is a very strong boxer, who hits hard. There is no such thing as an easy fight. Every fight is hard, and I will do what I have to do to leave with what's mine," Berto said.
Another Mexican fighter, Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, would like a shot at Berto's title in 2011. Berto says Alvarez is a very good fighter, but right now he lacks the experience to fight him for the title.
"A lot of people have spoken to me about Canelo Alvarez. He's having a good career, but to fight for a world title he needs a little more experience. I am in position to give him the opportunity to fight for a title, but Canelo, I believe, should get a little more experience," Berto said.
