WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto is looking for a repeat of his recent performance in April, where he overwhelmed former champion Carlos Quintana with a combination of speed, power and accurate punching. Quintana, who to this day is the only man to defeat Paul Williams, was unable to last more than eight rounds before the referee saved him from further punishment.
"That's the boxing business," said Berto. "The only thing I can do is my job. I just have to go in there and put these guys to sleep."
On November 27, Berto will face the hard-punching Freddy Hernandez as part of an HBO-televised tripleheader at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The main event will feature WBO and WBA lightweight titlist Juan Manuel Marquez against WBO interim king Michael Katsidis. Also on the card will be Celestino Caballero rising to super featherweight against Jason Litzau.
Berto is excited to get back in the ring. He wants to put on show to leave the fans satisfied. Berto has never seen Hernandez fight before, but he's stacking up the information in training camp.
"I'm very excited. I'm looking forward to going in there and putting on a good show for the fans so that they can enjoy my performance. That's what I do. I'm a performer," said Berto. "I'm hyped and ready to go to work. I've never seen Hernandez fight, but I'm getting a little bit more information now that we're in camp. From what I understand, he's durable and likes to go to work."
