Former champion Amir Khan does not agree with Floyd Mayweather's claim to be being "TBE" - The Best Ever.
A few weeks ago, Mayweather visited ESPN Deportes and selected himself as the best fighter of all-time. That move created a lot of static on the social networks, because most fans and historians rank fighters like Sugar Ray Robinson, Robert Duran, Julio Cesar Chavez and Muhammad Ali ahead of him.
Last Saturday night Mayweather closed out his career with his 49th victory with a dominating performance over Andre Berto at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
At best, Khan says Mayweather could fall in the top five of all-time but he won't place him above ring legends like Ali.
“I think he is one of the top names – he could be in the top five names in the world,” Khan told Drivetime of TalkSport. “If you look back in ten years time at his record, he will be respected. But when you hear people like Mayweather say he was better than Muhammed Ali and that he was the best ever, I don’t agree with that.”
Khan expects Mayweather to fight again. The 49th victory matched Rocky Marciano's unbeaten streak. Eventually Khan sees Mayweather coming back to break the record with fight number 50.
Khan added: “He’s a very smart fighter and he had the hard fights early in his career, so perhaps that’s why he’s choosing the easier ones now. Why match his [Marciano’s] record and not beat it? Why not do something that no other fighter has done? He will wake up one day and think why am I only matching that record.”
